Obituary for Anthony Barbere
BILLERICA – Anthony Barbere, age 94, husband of the late Jean (Holland) (MacLean) Barbere died Sunday at Billerica Crossing after a period of declining health. He was born in East Boston, August 24, 1918, a son of the late Frank and Teresa (Lamberti) Barbere and has been a Billerica resident for over 50 years. Tony was a proud and active member of the Billerica community having been a Town Meeting Member and a member of the Finance Committee for over 25 years. He was involved in local politics, working on a number of campaigns over the years, and was an organizer for the towns Yankee Doodle Festival and a former member of BATV. Tony was also a lifetime member of the Billerica Lodge of Elks #2071. Tony proudly served in the US Army during WW II where he was stationed in Germany. After the war, Tony was employed by the MBTA as a crane operator for many years, retiring in 1983. Tony is survived by his step-son, Ralph MacLean and his fiancée Linda Berthiaume of Manchester, NH; three step-daughters, Kathy LaPlante and her husband Raye of New Durham, NH, Patricia McGibbon and her husband Michael of Methuen, MA; and Karyn Smith and her husband Jason of Nashua, NH; four granddaughters; one great-granddaughter as well as his longtime friend Shirley Schult of Billerica. He was also the brother of the late Alfred Barbere. Tony’s family would like to thank the wonderful nurses, aides, and support staff at the Billerica Crossing for their care and compassion over the past several months. Visiting hours will be held Thursday at the SWEENEY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica from 4 – 7 p.m. All other services will be held privately at the convenience of his family.
