Obituary for Anita (Bertini) Gass
Anita (Bertini) Gass, age 85, beloved Wife of the late Edward R Gass Jr. died peacefully with her children by her side.
Originally from Lexington, daughter of the late Albert and Lillian (Roy) Bertini.
She is predeceased by her loving husband Edward R Gass Jr, of 65 years and sons Edward R Gass III and David P. Gass, as well as her grandson Stephen Gass. She is also predeceased by her brothers Albert and George Bertini.
She is survived by her children Patricia Collinge and husband Daniel (Tyngsboro), James D Gass (South Boston), John Gass and wife Kelly (Windham, NH), Linda Gass (South Windsor, CT), Karen Filippone and husband David (Billerica), Marilyn Smith and husband Brian (Nashua, NH), and her daughter-in-law Linda Gass (Lowell). She leaves behind 17 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Rosemarie Borne of Carriere, MS and leaves behind her beloved cat Mickey.
Anita and Ed moved to Billerica in 1960 and raised their family, which was the most important thing to her above all else. She was the best Wife, Mom and Nana that anyone could hope for. If you met her, she would smile and talk and you would feel like you knew her forever. She had the kindest soul. She loved to go camping all over New England, but especially at Peters Pond Park on Cape Cod where she and Ed were seasonal campers for many years. Anita also enjoyed crafting, gardening and bird watching.
Anita was well known as a cake decorator “Cakes by Anita”, and provided beautiful birthday and wedding cakes to many Billerica residents, across generations for some families. She also worked for the Town of Billerica as a Warden for the elections -- if you worked with her, you would remember her Beef Barley Soup!
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, May 18 at the SWEENEY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica from 4 – 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, May 19 at St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish in St. Theresa Church, 466 Boston Rd., Billerica at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at the Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to theAlzheimer's Assn or the Diabetes Assn
