Alfred R. Pearson Jr., 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 28, surrounded by his loving family. He was the cherished husband of Doris M. (Belanger) Pearson for 61 years. Born in Boston on June 25, 1935, to the late Alfred R. Sr. and Wanda (Cygan) Pearson, he spent his early years in Marblehead before moving to Billerica in 1967.
Al proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955 to 1959 and later had a distinguished career as an Analytical Chemist at Poly Vinyl Chemicals, now AstraZeneca. He was deeply involved in the Billerica community, serving as a Town Meeting Member for 35 years and contributing to the Finance Committee. A dedicated supporter of youth sports, Al's involvement with Billerica Little League included roles as a coach, equipment manager, and president.
He is survived by his wife Doris; his son, Mark Pearson, and wife Susan of Los Gatos, CA; his daughters, Beth Pearson of North Billerica, Cynthia Pearson of Billerica, and Karen Katz and husband Greg of Dunstable; his brother, Gerald Pearson of Marblehead; and eight grandchildren: Andrew, Briana, Lauren, Joshua, Brendon, Lilah, Arielle, and Erika.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, October 6, at Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, Billerica, from 1 to 4 p.m. A Funeral Mass will take place on Monday, October 7, at 10 a.m. at St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish in St. Theresa Church, followed by burial with military honors at Fox Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
