Obituary for Alfred A. Sousa

Alfred A. Sousa – Age 88, beloved husband of the late Viola M. (Wilson) Sousa died peacefully Saturday at the residence of his son Alfred P. Sousa after a sudden illness.

He was born in Chelmsford, November 23, 1927, a son of the late Manuel J. and Isabel (Perreira) Sousa and was a resident of North Billerica for many years.

Mr. Sousa served in the U.S. Army having done a tour in Japan. He retired after 30 years working for the U.S. Air Force at the Hanscom Air Force Base as an Aircraft Mechanic and then a Shop Forman in the motor vehicle and heavy equipment repair shop. Alfred “Spike” as he was known to most was an outstanding mechanic.

He enjoyed visits from his grandchildren and great grandchildren and they all looked forward to visits with their Bampi. He was an avid horse racing fan, enjoyed visits to Foxwoods. He also enjoyed gardening and landscaping.

The family wishes to thank the VNA of Middlesex East for providing outstanding care and comfort during Alfred’s illness.

Mr. Sousa is survived by his sons, Alfred P. Sousa of Lowell and Kevin M. Sousa and his wife Donna of Lowell; his brothers, Michael and James Sousa of E. Chelmsford and John Sousa of Ayer; his sister, Isabelle McGonigle of E. Chelmsford; his grandchildren, Jennifer M. Sousa-Boisvert and her husband Richard of Lowell, Jillian M. Sousa-Coe and her husband Massi of Marblehead and Kaitlen A. Sousa of Lowell; his great grandchildren, Danielle, Devin, Samantha, Emily, Meghan, Molly, Aaliyah, Brayden, Addison and Ellorie. He was the brother of the late Albert, Manuel and Anthony Sousa, Mary Roddy, Aurelia “Jeanne” Callahan, Clarice and Angeline Sousa.

SOUSA – Of N. Billerica, May 21, Alfred A. Sousa, Funeral Wednesday from the SWEENEY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica at 8 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Theresa Church at 9 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA Middlesex-East & Visiting Nurse Hospice, 607 North Ave., Suite 17, Wakefield, MA 01880. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, N. Tewksbury.
