Obituary for Robert W. Solomon
Billerica – Robert W. Solomon – Age 75, beloved husband of Barbara J. (McGinness) Solomon died Sunday at Care Dimensions in Lincoln with his family by his side.
He was born in Lowell, May 23, 1943, son of the late David Stanley Solomon Sr. and Mildred E. (Lacombe) Solomon and lived in Billerica all of his life. Mr. Solomon proudly served in the U.S. Army as an Aircraft Crew Chief and a Helicopter Gunner during the Vietnam War.
The first manager of the Hallenborg Ice Skating Rink in Billerica, he also served as the Assistant Superintendent of buildings and grounds for Middlesex County. For 25 years, Mr. Solomon co-owned and operated Solomon Mechanical with his brother until his retirement.
Mr. Solomon was very involved in the community having served on the Billerica Housing Authority, Board of Health, as well as being a member of Town Meeting and various other committees. He was also a member of the Billerica Elks, Solomon VFW Post, Billerica Knights of Columbus, Merrimack Valley Harley Davidson Owners Group and was a original member of the Billerica Golf League.
He enjoyed traveling with his wife and spending time with his family, especially with his granddaughters. Golfing, boating, photography, and motorcycle riding were also among his favorite hobbies.
Besides his wife, Mr. Solomon is survived by his daughter, Barbara DeCristofaro and her husband Joe of Wayland; his grandchildren, Hannah and Paige DeCristofaro; his brother, David Solomon Jr. of Dracut; his sisters, Charlene Farley of Tewksbury, Audrey Putnam and Laurel Zimmerman of Billerica, and Cheryl Berthold of Lowell; his cousins, Karen and Bob Sabre of Chelmsford and Susan Russell of Newburyport and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Albert Solomon, nephew of the late Harry and Ruth Sabre and son-in-law of the late Gladys McGinness.

Solomon, Funeral Thursday from the SWEENEY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica at 9:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary Church at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited.
