Obituary for Christopher S. Ryan
Of Billerica, formerly of South Weymouth. August 16. Age 55. Cherished brother of William and Lisa Ryan of River Forest, IL, Elizabeth Ryan of Wellesley, Mary Ryan of Prince Frederick, MD, Carolyn Ryan of New York, NY and Robert and Leigh Ann Ryan of Greenwich, CT.
Born in Weymouth, Chris graduated from Weymouth South High School and the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth. For the past several years, he worked in accounts for Lahey Health in Burlington. He was the unofficial mayor of Pro-Fitness Plus gym in Billerica, where he chatted so extensively with other members that it almost threatened to interfere with their aerobic results.
After brief and mysterious flirtations with the Miami Dolphins and the Cleveland Indians as a young boy, Chris dedicated himself with passion and single-mindedness to support of Boston’s sports teams. He often provided running color commentary by text to friends and family during critical games. When he was frustrated with his team’s performance on the field, the texts tended to erupt into unusual spellings of words.
He was an admirer of Larry Bird, Carl Yastrzemski, David Ortiz, and Tom Brady. He loved the New England Patriots, and attended many home games in Foxboro.
He had a big heart, loved his friends and family, and loved the beaches of the North Shore, especially Plum Island in Newburyport, where he and Lisa would take long walks.
He also loved reminiscing and sharing stories of Weymouth from earlier times.
He was pre-deceased by his parents, Robert and Ann Ryan, of Dennis.
He is survived by his beloved nieces and nephews, Ann, Henry and William Ryan, Robert and John McManus, Gus and Carolyn Aufderheide and Lucy, Robert, Maggie and John William Ryan.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Billerica at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Relatives and friends are welcome to gather with the family at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. or go directly to the church. Visiting hours will be held Friday at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica from 4 to 7 p.m. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, Chris’s family encourages those who knew him to donate to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168, and to root for a Red Sox World Series championship this fall.
